En parall\u00e8le, de la vapeur semble s\u2019\u00e9chapper du moteur et, au moment du contr\u00f4le, le liquide n\u2019a plus sa couleur franche d\u2019origine mais prend une teinte brun\u00e2tre, presque couleur caf\u00e9. Dans ce genre de situation, le constat est rarement rassurant\u00a0: le moteur consomme le liquide de refroidissement. Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne ne doit jamais \u00eatre pris \u00e0 la l\u00e9g\u00e8re, car il peut rapidement entra\u00eener des d\u00e9g\u00e2ts m\u00e9caniques importants.<\/p>\n<h2>Quelles peuvent \u00eatre les causes d\u2019une perte de liquide de refroidissement\u00a0?<\/h2>\n<p>Une baisse du niveau de liquide peut avoir plusieurs origines. Lorsque de larges flaques apparaissent sous le v\u00e9hicule, la cause est souvent assez \u00e9vidente. Une durite fissur\u00e9e, perc\u00e9e ou \u00e9clat\u00e9e sous la pression est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement en cause. Il arrive aussi que des animaux, comme les martres, s\u2019attaquent aux tuyaux. Dans ce cas, la r\u00e9action doit \u00eatre imm\u00e9diate. M\u00eame si le compartiment moteur semble sec, le circuit peut d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00eatre presque vide. Faire simplement l\u2019appoint n\u2019apporte aucune solution\u00a0: le liquide s\u2019\u00e9chappera aussit\u00f4t par la partie endommag\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n<p>D\u2019autres d\u00e9fauts sont plus sournois. Un radiateur qui commence \u00e0 fuir ou un joint de culasse fatigu\u00e9 peut provoquer une perte lente mais continue. Ces situations se manifestent souvent par une mont\u00e9e anormale de la temp\u00e9rature moteur. D\u00e8s que le voyant rouge en forme de thermom\u00e8tre s\u2019allume au tableau de bord, il faut s\u2019arr\u00eater sans insister. Le moteur doit refroidir, puis un atelier doit \u00eatre contact\u00e9. Continuer \u00e0 rouler dans ces conditions ne fait qu\u2019aggraver les d\u00e9g\u00e2ts.<\/p>\n<h2>Surveiller r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement le liquide de refroidissement<\/h2>\n<p>Contr\u00f4ler le niveau d\u2019huile et celui du liquide de refroidissement fait partie des gestes d\u2019entretien les plus simples. Pourtant, beaucoup de conducteurs n\u2019ouvrent le capot qu\u2019en cas d\u2019alerte ou de fum\u00e9e inqui\u00e9tante. Se contenter de regarder le niveau ne suffit pas. La couleur du liquide, l\u2019\u00e9tat des durites et des c\u00e2bles m\u00e9ritent tout autant d\u2019attention.<\/p>\n<p>Des marques de frottement, des fissures, des zones craquel\u00e9es ou m\u00eame des traces de morsures doivent imm\u00e9diatement \u00e9veiller les soup\u00e7ons. Le vase d\u2019expansion doit lui aussi \u00eatre examin\u00e9 avec soin\u00a0: fissures, \u00e9tat du bouchon, \u00e9tat g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des durites de radiateur. Des tuyaux devenus poreux peuvent laisser s\u2019\u00e9chapper le liquide sans laisser de trace au sol.<\/p>\n<p>Les petites fuites sont particuli\u00e8rement trompeuses. Le liquide ne s\u2019\u00e9chappe que moteur en marche et s\u2019\u00e9vapore aussit\u00f4t au contact des pi\u00e8ces chaudes. R\u00e9sultat\u00a0: le moteur manque de refroidissement sans que le probl\u00e8me soit visible. Dans ce cas, un appoint peut d\u00e9panner temporairement, mais un passage rapide en atelier reste indispensable pour identifier pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment l\u2019origine du probl\u00e8me.<\/p>\n<h2>Prudence lors de l\u2019ouverture du vase d\u2019expansion<\/h2>\n<p>Pour v\u00e9rifier l\u2019\u00e9tat du liquide, il est parfois n\u00e9cessaire d\u2019ouvrir le vase d\u2019expansion. Cette op\u00e9ration doit toujours \u00eatre effectu\u00e9e moteur froid. Le circuit de refroidissement est sous pression lorsqu\u2019il est chaud. Ouvrir le bouchon dans ces conditions expose \u00e0 de graves br\u00fblures, le liquide pouvant jaillir brutalement.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Liquide de refroidissement sombre\u00a0: un signe qui ne trompe pas<\/h2>\n<p>Il arrive que le moteur consomme du liquide sans pr\u00e9senter de d\u00e9faut \u00e9vident. La couleur peut sembler normale \u00e0 premi\u00e8re vue et l\u2019huile moteur conserver un aspect correct. Pourtant, de fines traces sombres ou huileuses apparaissent parfois dans le liquide de refroidissement. Elles trahissent une contamination par l\u2019huile moteur.<\/p>\n<p>Ces anomalies peuvent \u00eatre tr\u00e8s discr\u00e8tes au d\u00e9part. Attendre l\u2019apparition d\u2019une fum\u00e9e blanche \u00e9paisse ou d\u2019une fuite importante serait une erreur. Une visite rapide chez un professionnel s\u2019impose. Plus vos observations seront pr\u00e9cises, plus le diagnostic sera rapide et fiable.<\/p>\n<p>Le liquide de refroidissement n\u2019est pas toujours bleu. Selon le fabricant, il peut \u00eatre vert, jaune, rouge ou rose. En revanche, une teinte brun\u00e2tre accompagn\u00e9e de stries grasses indique toujours la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019huile. L\u2019huile n\u2019a rien \u00e0 faire dans le circuit de refroidissement, pas plus que dans le r\u00e9servoir de lave-glace.<\/p>\n<h2>Que signifie r\u00e9ellement un moteur qui aspire de l\u2019eau\u00a0?<\/h2>\n<p>Lorsque l\u2019\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 entre le circuit d\u2019huile et celui du liquide de refroidissement n\u2019est plus assur\u00e9e, les deux fluides peuvent se m\u00e9langer. Le liquide peut aussi p\u00e9n\u00e9trer directement dans les cylindres. On le remarque alors \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chappement par une vapeur ou une fum\u00e9e blanche persistante, m\u00eame par temps chaud. Ce sympt\u00f4me est toujours pr\u00e9occupant.<\/p>\n<p>Il existe un autre sc\u00e9nario, plus brutal\u00a0: l\u2019aspiration directe d\u2019eau par l\u2019admission d\u2019air, par exemple apr\u00e8s le passage dans une flaque profonde. L\u2019eau entre alors dans le moteur et bloque imm\u00e9diatement le mouvement des pistons. Les bielles peuvent se tordre, provoquant des d\u00e9g\u00e2ts majeurs. Dans ce cas, il n\u2019y a pas d\u2019alternative\u00a0: le v\u00e9hicule doit \u00eatre remorqu\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h2>Joint de culasse\u00a0: une petite pi\u00e8ce aux cons\u00e9quences lourdes<\/h2>\n<p>Un joint de culasse d\u00e9faillant peut entra\u00eener plusieurs sympt\u00f4mes\u00a0: pr\u00e9sence d\u2019eau dans l\u2019huile, huile dans le liquide de refroidissement ou surchauffe rapide du moteur. La pi\u00e8ce en elle-m\u00eame est relativement simple et peu co\u00fbteuse. C\u2019est la main-d\u2019\u0153uvre qui rend la r\u00e9paration complexe.<\/p>\n<p>Le remplacement impose un d\u00e9montage important du moteur. Les surfaces du bloc et de la culasse doivent ensuite \u00eatre contr\u00f4l\u00e9es et rectifi\u00e9es avec une grande pr\u00e9cision avant le remontage. Ce travail demande du temps, du savoir-faire et des outils sp\u00e9cifiques. C\u2019est pourquoi ce type d\u2019intervention repr\u00e9sente un co\u00fbt \u00e9lev\u00e9 et doit imp\u00e9rativement \u00eatre confi\u00e9 \u00e0 un professionnel exp\u00e9riment\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00c0 quoi sert r\u00e9ellement le liquide de refroidissement\u00a0?<\/h2>\n<p>Le liquide de refroidissement circule en permanence dans le moteur et l\u2019ensemble de son circuit. Sa mission est simple mais vitale\u00a0: absorber la chaleur produite par le fonctionnement du moteur et l\u2019\u00e9vacuer afin d\u2019\u00e9viter toute surchauffe.<\/p>\n<p>Il ne s\u2019agit pas d\u2019eau ordinaire. Le liquide contient un antigel, le plus souvent \u00e0 base d\u2019\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne glycol, qui emp\u00eache le gel en hiver. Des additifs anticorrosion prot\u00e8gent \u00e9galement les composants m\u00e9talliques contre la rouille et l\u2019entartrage.<\/p>\n<p>Un niveau trop bas entra\u00eene tr\u00e8s vite une mont\u00e9e en temp\u00e9rature. \u00c0 terme, cela peut conduire \u00e0 une panne s\u00e9rieuse, voire \u00e0 la destruction du moteur.
