Ce dernier est pourtant souvent n\u00e9glig\u00e9, alors qu\u2019il joue un r\u00f4le essentiel dans la protection du moteur et la stabilit\u00e9 de sa temp\u00e9rature.<\/p>\n<h2>Qu\u2019est-ce que le liquide de refroidissement automobile ?<\/h2>\n<p>Le liquide de refroidissement est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement compos\u00e9 de 85 \u00e0 90 % de mono\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne glycol (MEG), d\u2019\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne glycol (EG) ou de monopropyl\u00e8ne glycol (MPG), souvent d\u00e9sign\u00e9s sous le terme g\u00e9n\u00e9rique de glycol. Ces alcools abaissent le point de cong\u00e9lation du liquide. \u00c0 titre d\u2019exemple, le glycol pur ne g\u00e8le qu\u2019entre \u201310 et \u201315 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 ces alcools s\u2019ajoutent diff\u00e9rents additifs. On y trouve notamment des inhibiteurs de corrosion, des agents antimousse, des stabilisateurs et des inhibiteurs de cavitation. Ces derniers emp\u00eachent la formation de bulles de vapeur lorsque le liquide devient tr\u00e8s chaud. La combinaison de ces additifs d\u00e9termine les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s finales du liquide de refroidissement.<\/p>\n\n<h2>O\u00f9 circule le liquide de refroidissement dans le v\u00e9hicule ?<\/h2>\n<p>Le liquide de refroidissement circule dans le moteur, le radiateur et le syst\u00e8me de chauffage de l\u2019habitacle. Le circuit de refroidissement d\u2019une voiture moderne se compose de deux parties: le petit circuit et le grand circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque le moteur est froid, la pompe \u00e0 eau fait circuler le liquide uniquement \u00e0 travers le bloc moteur, la culasse et l\u2019\u00e9changeur de chaleur du chauffage. Cette configuration permet au moteur d\u2019atteindre rapidement sa temp\u00e9rature de fonctionnement, ce qui r\u00e9duit l\u2019usure et les \u00e9missions polluantes.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s que la temp\u00e9rature de service est atteinte, une vanne thermostatique ouvre le grand circuit. Le liquide traverse alors le radiateur, o\u00f9 il lib\u00e8re la chaleur absorb\u00e9e vers l\u2019air ambiant. Le vase d\u2019expansion, reli\u00e9 au radiateur par des durites, absorbe la dilatation du liquide chauff\u00e9 et prot\u00e8ge ainsi les composants du syst\u00e8me.<\/p>\n<h2>Quelle est la fonction du liquide de refroidissement ?<\/h2>\n<p>La fonction principale du liquide de refroidissement consiste \u00e0 emp\u00eacher l\u2019eau de geler \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures n\u00e9gatives. Lorsqu\u2019elle g\u00e8le, l\u2019eau se dilate et peut provoquer des fissures dans le bloc moteur, la culasse ou les durites.<\/p>\n<p>Selon le type de liquide et le rapport de m\u00e9lange, la protection antigel peut atteindre \u201340 \u00b0C. En parall\u00e8le, le liquide augmente le point d\u2019\u00e9bullition du circuit de refroidissement jusqu\u2019\u00e0 environ 125 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>Les additifs contenus dans le liquide pr\u00e9viennent la corrosion, les d\u00e9p\u00f4ts et la formation de mousse. Ils assurent \u00e9galement la lubrification de la pompe \u00e0 eau, de la vanne thermostatique et des vannes du chauffage.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Comment choisir le bon liquide de refroidissement ?<\/h2>\n<p>Pour un appoint ou un remplacement, il convient toujours de consulter le manuel du v\u00e9hicule. Le constructeur pr\u00e9cise le type de liquide adapt\u00e9 au moteur.<\/p>\n<p>On distingue trois grandes technologies de liquide de refroidissement:<\/p>\n<h3>OAT \u2013 Organic Acid Technology<\/h3>\n<p>Les liquides OAT sont d\u00e9pourvus de silicates et se reconnaissent souvent \u00e0 leur couleur rouge. Ils sont principalement utilis\u00e9s dans les moteurs \u00e9quip\u00e9s de radiateurs en aluminium, notamment chez certains constructeurs comme Volkswagen.<\/p>\n<h3>IAT \/ Si-OAT \u2013 Inorganic Acid Technology<\/h3>\n<p>Les liquides IAT contiennent des silicates et sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement bleus ou bleu-violet. Cette technologie repose sur des additifs inorganiques offrant une protection anticorrosion rapide.<\/p>\n<h3>HOAT \u2013 Hybrid Organic Acid Technology<\/h3>\n<p>Les liquides HOAT combinent les avantages des technologies OAT et IAT. Ils sont souvent jaunes ou orange et sont utilis\u00e9s, entre autres, par Mercedes-Benz et BMW en premi\u00e8re monte.<\/p>\n<p>La couleur du liquide fournit une premi\u00e8re indication, mais elle ne remplace jamais les recommandations du constructeur.<\/p>\n<h2>Peut-on m\u00e9langer diff\u00e9rents liquides de refroidissement ?<\/h2>\n<p>Il est d\u00e9conseill\u00e9 de m\u00e9langer des liquides avec et sans silicates. Un circuit rempli d\u2019un liquide rouge sans silicate doit uniquement \u00eatre compl\u00e9t\u00e9 avec un liquide identique ou un HOAT compatible. Les liquides bleus contenant des silicates peuvent en revanche \u00eatre compl\u00e9t\u00e9s avec des produits de m\u00eame technologie.<\/p>\n<p>Le fabricant importe moins que la technologie utilis\u00e9e. En cas de doute, une vidange compl\u00e8te reste la solution la plus s\u00fbre.<\/p>\n<h2>Quand faut-il remplacer le liquide de refroidissement ?<\/h2>\n<p>Les intervalles de remplacement sont d\u00e9finis par le constructeur et varient g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement entre 50 000 et 100 000 km. Avec le temps, les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s anticorrosion et protectrices diminuent, ce qui rend un remplacement indispensable.<\/p>\n<p>Entre deux remplacements, le niveau doit \u00eatre contr\u00f4l\u00e9 au moins deux fois par an. Avant l\u2019hiver, il est recommand\u00e9 de faire v\u00e9rifier la protection antigel dans un atelier.<\/p>\n<h2>Quelle quantit\u00e9 de liquide de refroidissement est n\u00e9cessaire ?<\/h2>\n<p>La capacit\u00e9 du circuit d\u00e9pend du moteur et se situe g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement entre 5 et 10 litres. Dans un m\u00e9lange standard, environ la moiti\u00e9 du volume correspond au liquide de refroidissement concentr\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h2>Faut-il toujours m\u00e9langer le liquide avec de l\u2019eau ?<\/h2>\n<p>L\u2019utilisation de liquide pur n\u2019apporte aucun avantage. Au contraire, elle r\u00e9duit la capacit\u00e9 de transport thermique. L\u2019eau poss\u00e8de une capacit\u00e9 calorifique \u00e9lev\u00e9e, id\u00e9ale pour \u00e9vacuer la chaleur du moteur.<\/p>\n<p>Un rapport de m\u00e9lange de 1:1 est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement recommand\u00e9. Certains fabricants exigent l\u2019utilisation d\u2019eau d\u00e9min\u00e9ralis\u00e9e afin d\u2019\u00e9viter les d\u00e9p\u00f4ts de calcaire.
