Jusqu\u2019en 1988, le frein \u00e0 main agissait de mani\u00e8re inhabituelle sur les roues avant, ce qui complique encore aujourd\u2019hui certains r\u00e9glages. La berline \u00e0 hayon, avec son pare-brise bomb\u00e9 et ses trois ou cinq portes, \u00e9tait disponible uniquement avec des moteurs essence. En 1980, elle fut compl\u00e9t\u00e9e par une version tricorps. Les turbos \u00e9voluent eux aussi : capteur de cliquetis, bo\u00eetier de gestion d\u00e9di\u00e9, soupape de d\u00e9rivation sous d\u00e9pression, r\u00e9gulation de pression de suralimentation\u2026 Autant d\u2019innovations qui permettent d\u2019utiliser sans risque du carburant de moindre qualit\u00e9 et \u00e0 faible indice d&rsquo;octane. Reste que l\u2019acc\u00e8s au moteur d\u00e9concerte au d\u00e9but : l\u2019imposant capot s\u2019ouvre \u00e0 l\u2019envers, depuis la baie de pare-brise. C\u2019est aussi l\u2019ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 le cabriolet, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 d\u00e8s 1983, entre en production en s\u00e9rie. Avec plus de 48 000 exemplaires produits, ce fut un vrai succ\u00e8s. Comme d\u2019autres mod\u00e8les Saab, il sortit des lignes de l\u2019usine Valmet, \u00e0 Uusikaupunki en Finlande. Atout majeur des Saab originaires du nord de la Su\u00e8de ou de Finlande : une excellente protection anticorrosion optionnelle. En raison des pistes caillouteuses proches du cercle polaire, nombre d\u2019entre elles recevaient \u00e0 la livraison plusieurs couches de Dinol ou Mike Sanders. R\u00e9sultat : un \u00e9tat de conservation bien sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui des mod\u00e8les europ\u00e9ens.
